Provo High SCC – Call For Members
Serving on the School Community Council
Serving on our School Community Council is a wonderful way for parents and teachers to contribute and help improve academic performance at our school. The school receives an annual dividend from the school trust lands. Our council decides how these funds will be used. Last year, our school received $135,913 from the School LAND Trust Program. The council also reviews and prepares other academic plans for our students each year. All plans are reviewed for final approval by our school board. Councils also act in an advisory capacity to school and school district administrations.
Qualifications
Every public school in Utah has a School Community Council. The councils are made up of school employees who are elected by employees and parents who are elected by parents of students attending the school. Membership terms are for two years. Elections are held at the beginning of each school year. Parent members must have a student attending the school at least one of the two years of their term of service. Employees must be employed by the school district at the school. Council meetings are held from 2:30-3:30 once a month (generally the second Wednesday) at Provo High.
For more information please visit www.schoollandtrust.org.

Employees of the Month
Congratulations to our August Employees of the month, Mercedes McGee & Lissette Blanchard!
Mercedes McGee:
Mercedes McGee grew up in Traverse City, Michigan. She came to Provo High after she earned her degree in Physiology and Developmental Biology at BYU. While studying there, she decided she wanted to be a teacher and the summer after she graduated, she got her job here at PHS. Mercedes loves the collaborative environment here at PHS, and she loves to watch the students learn and grow over the course of the year. Even though she has spent significant time living in other countries (Europe, Spain, & Italy), now you may find her hiking or watching Netflix when she isn’t at work. She also LOVES dark chocolate!
Here are some things colleagues had to say about Mercedes:
- She is an amazing colleague to work with and always goes above and beyond. She makes it so easy to collaborate with and has been a tremendous member of the team from day one.
- Tremendous colleague and teacher!!!
- Mercedes is great! She’s very positive and is always smiling. She’s like a much needed ray of sunshine in our department!
- Mercedes is a rock star–dynamite in a tiny package! She has been an amazing collaborator on the biology PLC team, contributing to the team’s curriculum and assessment development. She meets with her team daily, always has a positive attitude, and works until the team achieves that day’s goals.
Lissette Blanchard:
Lissette Blanchard grew up in Fallbrook, California (San Diego County). She came to Provo when her husband got a job creating and running the Pro Look Sports website. She came to work at PHS once all of her kids were in school full-time. She started here at Provo High as an ESL aide and loved it so much that she decided to become a school counselor. Lissette loves the wonderful people she works with at PHS and all the amazing things they teach her every day. When she isn’t at school, Lissette likes to spend her time cross-stitching and working on various crafts. As a future side job, she would LOVE to be a truck driver!
Here are some things colleagues had to say about Lissette:
- Lissette is positive, enthusiastic, and energetic in her efforts to help Provo High students. She’s a great addition to our counseling team and faculty!
- She’s so good to work with. Always positive and energetic. Very supportive to her students as well as her colleagues. Never seen her in a bad mood.
- Lissette is truly a great addition to our awesome counseling staff who possessed with qualities that make her very unique and exceptional: innovative, friendly, visionary, loyal, team player and with a humorous wit personality. We love her!
- Lissette is so kind and warm. She is never too busy to help anyone who is in need. She looks at each student and finds ways to help them be successful. Her Spanish and ESL knowledge is so valuable to our school! She always sees the good in others and has a way of drawing out the best. She always makes me feel valued and appreciated!! I love working with her!!
Thank you Mercedes and Lissette for your contribution to PHS! We are lucky to have you here!!
