Disclosure Document, Literacy B: 2023-2024 School Year
Overview:
Literacy B is a class in which students will focus on improving basic reading skills, basic grammatical skills, vocabulary development, basic writing skills, and basic analytical skills.
What Are Our Study Sources?
We will study books, short stories, film shorts, poetry, and films. We will study a wide range of genres (realism, historical, fantasy, drama, romance, etc.).
The books/films we will study for the 2023-2024 school year will be selected from the works listed below. Reading selections will be on a four-year rotating schedule to avoid repetition. Books for this year will be chosen based on the availability of classroom sets.
Viewing films are subject to parent/guardian approval.

How Will We Study?
We will study individually, in pairs, in small groups, and as a class. We will practice writing through daily journal prompts. We will set aside time each class period for independent reading. We will read books as a class. Each book we read will have an audio version available through Canvas or other means when possible. Writing prompts, assignments and reference helps will be posted in Canvas. We will learn how to use programs such as Kami, Google Docs, Google Slides, Adobe slides, etc. to help us demonstrate what we have learned. We will also learn/practice AVID strategies.
Grading will include the following:
1. Worksheets, assignments, quizzes, tests, vocabulary, and other assigned materials
2. Writing prompts

4. Speaking and listening
*If you have your phone out during independent reading you will receive a “0” score for that day.
Grading Scale:
A = 93-100% B- = 80-82 D = 60-69%
A- =90-92% C+ = 77-79% F = 0=59%
B+ = 87-89% C = 73-76%
B = 83-86% C- = 70-72%
I will try to update assigned work weekly in PowerSchool. If you find a grading error in PowerSchool, please tell me and I will fix it.
Class Rules
Respect each other. (don’t be rude, don’t say inappropriate things, don’t pick on or bully others, Respect other’s views (even if you don’t agree with them).
Raise hands before you speak.
Don’t speak when the teacher is speaking.
Don’t speak when other students are speaking
No phones during teaching/work time!!! You may earn phone time through work completion, following directions, positive behaviors, etc.
Other: We will discuss other possible rules as a class.
