I welcome you to an exciting year of Russian.
This class is intended for students in grades 9, 10, 11 and/or 12.
This will be a fun but intense class and will require much dedication and time on the part of the student in and out of the class. You will enjoy this class and learn the Russian language with your willing participation and work with other students, helping each other to progress and develop in this language.
You will receive 1 elective credit for completing this class.
Learning Expectations
In this class you will learn the Cyrillic alphabet used in the Russian Language. Using this alphabet you will learn to read, write, speak and understand Russian. You will also learn Russian grammar, culture, history and songs as well as discussing current and past events dealing with Russia. We will also learn to sing several authentic Russian Songs in Russian.
Assessment of Progress
Students will be assessed regularly through written quizzes, tests and writing assignments, as well as through oral conversations, tests, and interviews.
Students may be asked to work on one or more lab projects which will be presented to the class during class time in Russian. These projects will be assessed for language competency and may or may not be included in the final grade.
Students will be expected to show growth and learning throughout the course by improving their ability to use the Russian language.
Course Materials
We will be using the “Nachalo” textbook with all of its supplemental materials, including audio and video files.
Movies: We will be watching several movies in class that are in Russian and some that are in English that deal with past or current Russian history, culture and ongoing situations or that will help in the use of and aid in the learning of the Russian Language.
