Tory Norman, CPA
Business and Accounting Teacher
I am so excited to be working along side the students and staff at Provo High School! Up until 2017, I was practicing as a Certified Public Accountant and working as a business and technology consultant for small businesses in Utah Valley and around the world. Now, as an educator, I strive to bring those real-world experiences into the classroom through interactive, hands-on activities based on the projects and problems from real businesses. My hope is that these experiences will allow students to get a feel for what a career in these fields may be like and how the skills they are learning in class can be applied to real life.

My classes are structured with standards-based grading. Students are graded based on their ability to demonstrate appropriate standards during the course of the class. As such, extra credit is typically not given with one exception. Below is a description of the one extra credit assignment which students are allowed to do no more than once per term. Each submission will be worth 25 points in Business Office Specialist and 10 points in Accounting.
Here’s to the Crazy Ones… the words that, on September 28, 1997 were made famous by the Apple television commercial that paid tribute to some of the brightest minds in history who dared to think different and were often mocked because they were crazy enough to change the world. Today, these people stand to inspire a new generation of crazy thinkers. In my classroom I challenge all students to think crazy and act boldly in the pursuit of their own dreams. This is what our “Crazy Ones” wall is all about.
For your extra credit assignment, you will pick a person who you believe belongs on the Crazy Ones wall. Write a one-page, single-spaced document answering the following questions and present it to the class:
- Who is this person and what have they done?
- Why does this person deserve to be on the Crazy Ones wall?
- How has this person inspired you?
