Seeds of Success is a BYU program that provides free academic tutoring in multiple subject areas. Below is a letter from the organization outlining the details of the program and how to get your student set up with tutoring. Contact info is also provided, should you have additional questions.
To the Parents of the Provo School District,
We are Seeds of Success, a volunteer organization from BYU consisting of students who tutor children grades k-12 in every imaginable subject. We currently have many tutors who would still like more students to tutor and we are seeking to expand so we can serve as many individuals as possible. We take students who need help in virtually any subject including languages such as Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic, as well as every level of math, science, and English. Our tutors will work with you to set a regular meeting time that works with your schedule and meet with your child on BYU campus for at least one hour a week. Tutors and students are matched based on the needs of the student and the tutor’s capabilities. We do not ask for any money or donations. This is purely a volunteer service!
Here are a few important details:
To keep your child and our tutors safe, all tutoring takes place on BYU campus in public locations. No tutoring is allowed to take place in your home. Your tutor will be able to offer suggestions of good places to meet. Keep in mind that our tutors are just regular BYU students (well, they are actually quite extraordinary!) and don’t receive any formal training. They are just volunteers willing to help someone else in an area related to their studies. Sometimes, our supply and demand is a little skewed and it takes time to find everyone a tutor. We will let you know when we have a tutor for you. We have a harder time finding a tutor if you request special skills such as language, music, athletics, art and sometimes even English tutoring but we will do our best. Our tutors commit to give you an hour a week. They are not committed to give more but are free to work out additional times to meet if their schedule allows. This is indeed a service organization and you should in no way feel obligated to pay or compensate your tutors.
To begin tutoring, we need you to do two things:
First: Please fill out the attached “Parent Release Form“. You will need to print it off and sign it. We cannot accept electronic signatures. Feel free to bring this in by hand to our office or mail it to the address indicated or just scan it and email it back to us. Second: We also need you to fill out a “Student Needs Form” from our website so we can find your child the best possible tutor! Please print this form, sign it, and either deliver it to the office at the address below or email us a photo of the signed form at the email address below.
Once we receive your student’s information, we will try our best to pair them up with suitable tutor. it may take a little bit of time but we will find one as soon as we can.
Let us know if you have any questions or interest! We truly are here to help!
