Cell Phone Expectations and Procedures
Cell phones are a regular part of society today and can be a powerful tool in education, or a distraction to the learning environment. Students at Provo High School are permitted to have personal cell phones at school and may utilize them at appropriate times, and as directed by a classroom teacher. Cell phone use is permitted during passing periods, lunch periods, and before or after school. Individual teachers will develop expectations in their classes that may differ depending upon the circumstances of each subject area.
Students whose cell phone use prevents themselves or others from participating in class activities, or otherwise detracts from the learning environment, will be directed to put the cell phone away. Repeated issues with cell phone use may lead to a teacher requesting to keep the cell phone in a safe place until class is completed. At that time, the teacher will remind the student of these expectations and return the phone after class. Repeated violations of these expectations will result in parent communication, and/or additional administrative interventions.
Any student who wishes to store their cell phone to avoid distractions may work out an arrangement with a classroom teacher, or the main office for safekeeping until class is completed.
Remember: There is a time and a place for cell phone use at school and in the workplace. We want all of our PHS students to learn to develop that awareness and meet those future career expectations.
