During halftime at the State 4A Boys’ Basketball Tournament on March 7, our own Andrea Betts was named the UHSAA (Utah High School Activities Association) Super Fan of the Year. Mrs. Betts received a commemorative plaque and will also be honored at a luncheon with the UHSAA Board of Trustees to be held at the Willow Creek County Club on March 27.
The UHSAA Super Fan Award was inaugurated over 15 years ago and was conceived to honor outstanding contributors to Utah High School activities and the youth those activities serve. The honor is limited to a select group as only five nominations are accepted each year.
Mrs. Betts has been supporting high school activities for nearly fifteen years. A graduate of Whittier High School in Whittier, California, Andrea has supported high school sports teams by attending team activities and encouraging positive attitudes and hard work.
Andrea was a cheerleader in high school and later at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. Since then, she has continued to cheer on the passion and dedication of students as they participate in high school sports and activities. In addition to attending the games, she has organized a booster club and operated the snack shack at the events.
Andrea says, “I believe high school activities teach students life lessons they may not learn anywhere else. Learning how to handle failure, winning with class, communicating with others and working in a team environment are skills cultivated through high school activities that will continue throughout a student’s life.”
For her support of high school activities and for her love of the students who participate in them, we want to congratulate Mrs. Betts on being named a 2014 Super Fan of the Year. Thanks Mrs. Betts for all you do for so many here at PHS!
