Course Title: Peer Tutoring
Credit: Elective .50 per semester (can be taken multiple times)
Grade level: 9-12
Course Description: As a Peer Tutor, you will have the unique opportunity to work as a mentor for students with disabilities. You will help them with their classwork, work skills, and social skills. You will also learn terms, techniques, and best practices that will give you an advantage should you choose to pursue a career in Special Education. Most importantly, you will make lasting friendships with the coolest kids at Provo High School.
Learning Expectations: Each term students will complete one Canvas Module. These modules will prepare them to be more successful peer tutors. If students repeat the course—as many do—they will continue to progress through modules to learn many of the skills needed to pursue a career in special education.

- Peer Tutors take the time each week to reflect on their own performance and experiences in the classroom. This provides an opportunity to ask questions about classroom procedures and highlight positive moments during the week.

Assessment of Progress and Achievement:

- Weekly reflection journals let us know how Peer Tutors are doing and what they are not understanding.
- Students receive a credit/no credit grade for completing these each week.

- Summative Assessments
- Modules are available from the first day of the term to the last day of the term. Students can complete them at any time. Each module will contain a quiz to check for understanding. The quiz can be retaken until a perfect score is achieved.

Course Materials:
- Students will need access to a computer and internet to complete canvas course. If a student does not have access to a computer at home they can have time during class to use school computers.
- Any additional materials will be provided by teachers.
Classroom Procedures:
- Attendance
- Attendance is mandatory, directly tied to your grade, and cannot be made up!
- Exceptions will be granted for school activities and doctor excused absences.
- Half credit will be granted for parent excused absences

- Hall passes
- We follow the 20/20 rule school wide. This means no students out of classes for 20 minutes before and after the bell rings.
Progress Reports and Report Cards:
- Participation and Journals will be graded via powerschool weekly.
- Report cards and grades will be determined using the district grading scale.
Connecting Home to School:
- Students are required to fill out or update disclosure documents and permission slips each year.

- I am available before and after school Tuesday through Friday for meetings or phone calls.
