Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
Welcome to Secondary Mathematics II
This class will complete a math core credit. Students in SM2 will focus on quadratic expressions, equations, and functions, extend the set of rational numbers to the set of complex numbers, link probability and data through conditional probability and counting methods, study similarity and right triangle trigonometry, and study circles with their quadratic algebraic representations. These concepts will build a foundation of thought processes and problem solving for all higher math classes. I believe every student has the capability to receive an A in my class. I look forward to a great school year. I am thrilled to be a part of a math department that has the students’ best interests in mind in everything we do.

Assessment of Progress
Each unit will include one or two quizzes and a unit test. Quizzes are an important tool to assess your level of understanding in the middle of a unit. Before a test, you will be given a review assignment that will be very similar in scope of the test. Come prepared and make sure any questions you may have will be answered before the test day.
There will be at least three unit tests per term.
Big Ideas Math: Integrated Mathematics II
Each student will have a book to keep at home for homework assignments and to use as a reference. The book can also be found online: https://bigideasmath.com
- Pencils, red pen and erasers
- 3 ring binder with lined paper and graph paper
- Graphing calculator TI-84, TI-Nspire or CASIO fx-9750GII is recommended
- Scientific calculator required (TI-36X Pro, TI-30XS Multiview, TI-30x IIS, or CASIO fx-115ES PLUS, or CASIO fx-300ES PLUS) for use with homework
Homework will be turned in on the day of the unit test. All homework must be turned in on time for full credit. Late work will receive partial credit.
If you are absent you are responsible to get your assignments from me or classmate. Come in and get help before or after school if needed. You have two class periods from your return to class to turn in absent work for full credit.
It is your job to get the best you can the first time you take the test. If you have a low score, you can rework the test for partial points.
