Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
Welcome to the 2017 -2018 school year!! My name is Feli Ika, and I am SO excited to have the privilege of working with you this school year. I look forward to getting to know you and working together in order to achieve a very successful school year here at Provo High.
Learning Strategies Math 1 is a resource class developed to increase student’s basic math skills in support of the general education math class and curriculum. This class works closely with your general education math teacher to provide extra support for you, in oder to successfully access the general education math curriculum. We will review math concepts and lessons taught in your general education math class to ensure that you are successfully completing assignments and meeting grade level math requirements, with the proper accommodations and support outlined in your IEP.
Learning Expectations
Objective:
Students will increase their math skills at least 1 grade level within the school year.
Assessment of Progress
We will use assessments to help us track your progress in your math skills and abilities throughout the school year.
We will use the Scholastic Math Inventory to track this progress. This assessment will be given to you 3 times throughout the school year: Beginning of the school year, Middle of the school year, and the End of the school year. I’m excited to see your growth throughout the year!:)
Course Materials
In order to be successful in my class, I ask that you be prepared bring the following materials to every class:
- POSITIVE ATTITUDE:)
- DESIRE TO LEARN:)
- Math Textbook
- Notebook or 3 Ring Binder with Notebook paper w/ divider for our class
- Pens & Pencils (Do ALL homework in pencil, corrections in pen)
Should we need any additional items for certain lessons, I will be sure to inform you ahead of time.

- No bathroom breaks until work is done
- Phones and IPods must be put away during work time.
Attendance:
Provo High School’s attendance policy will be in affect unless your student’s IEP indicates otherwise. All assignments may be made up but only at 70% accuracy.
Hall Pass:
All students will have have 5 hall passes to use each term. Permission to use hall passes will only be granted AFTER work has been completed for the period. If students have remaining hall passes at the end of the term them may turn them in for any absences, missing assignments, or prizes.
Respect:
Students will show respect for self, others and property. Students will demonstrate appropriate social interactions with others. Students will communicate his or her feelings in an appropriate manner. Swearing, tantrums and other inappropriate behaviors at worksites will not be tolerated.
Dress:
Students must be properly dressed or they will be sent to the office. Example: No shirts with inappropriate language or sexual pictures or words on them allowed. Boys and Girls must have shirts that cover their shoulders and shorts that cover their underwear.
Honesty:
Students will be honest in his or her dealings with others. Stealing and lying will not be tolerated.
Electronic Devices:
Students may not use electronic devices, including cell phones in class, unless authorized by faculty or staff for instructional purposes. You will be warned once to turn your cell phone on silent when in class.
Provo High and myself are not be responsible for lost or stolen items.
Punishment:
If I have to ask a student more than 3 times to follow rules, they will be asked to be in time out or see an administrator, loose points earned in the reading room, depending on behavior.
Calendar of Due Dates for Major Assignments
We will follow up with assignments, projects, and tests given in the general education math class.
Any work given in my class will be provided as review or additional practice in order to help you successfully meet IEP goals, grade level performance, and the objective of this class.
Progress Reports and Report Cards
Progress Monitoring/Grading Policy
Progress on IEP goals will be monitored and documented. You will receive a summary of progress at the end of each term at approximately the same time report cards are distributed.
Grades will be based on punctuality, class participation, appropriate behavior, progress made toward IEP goals, and scores on class assignments.

79-77 C+
76-73 C
72-70 C-
69-65 D+
64-62 D
61-59 D-
Grade changes may occur for lower percentages according to each individual IEP goal.
