Health Syllabus
Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
Health is a semester long course that will guide students through many dimensions of health and wellness. Students will develop necessary skills needed in confronting difficult situations. By the end of the semester students will understand health prevention and promotion techniques that will aid them in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Learning Expectations
The following are the units that we will cover throughout the semester. In order to be in class during the Human Sexuality Unit, the opt-in consent form will need to be signed by a parent/guardian. Those who do not fill-out the form will be sent to the library to work on an alternative assignment. This form will be handed out during the Substance Abuse Unit.

- Participation: 15%, Homework: 35%, Quizzes: 5%, Assessments: 30%, Final Project: 15%
Assessment of Progress
Quizzes will be given throughout the semester, some will be announced and some will be surprises. If students come to class, engage, and do their homework, quizzes will be easy.
There will be unit tests or projects within each unit to assess students learning. There will not be a final test; instead there will be a Final Project.

Students will need a pencil, lined paper everyday.
Classroom Procedures
Attendance
Students need to be in class. We will do many in-class activities that will aid the student in his or her learning. Students will be marked tardy if not in their seats when the bell rings. Students will be marked absent if they show up with less than half of the class left.
Make-Up Work
Students who are absent will be allowed to make up work for full credit. It is the students responsibility to pick up any missing work.

Calendar of Due Dates for Major Assignments
Throughout the semester, students will have assignments and projects to complete. Due dates will be clearly discussed with students and posted on the white board.
Progress Reports and Report Cards
Grades will be posted weekly on powerschool. Students and parents can look on power school to check for missing assignments. Here is the grade scale that I will be using for the semester.
Grading System
100-93 = A
92-90 = A-
89-87 = B+
86-83 = B
82-80 = B-
79-77 = C+
76-73 = C
72-70 = C-
60-69 = D
59-0 = F
