Beginning Screen Printing
Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
An activity-oriented instructional course(s) that prepares individuals for enrollment in advanced vocational and technical education programs by providing exploratory experiences and laboratory activities related to graphic arts. This course introduces the student to basic pre-printing techniques used in the graphics arts industry. Students will complete assignments in screen printing on t-shirts, heat-transfers, and stickers.
Learning Expectations
Each assignment will have a set point value, of that 75% is following instructions 25% will be Evaluation/creativity based on student/instructor critique. Daily Journals and Daily Questions will be part of your Final grade. Each day 5 pts are possible for daily quotes with a response and 5pts for daily question with answer.
Sketchbooks will also be required with each creative assignment and will be gured into nal grade of each project. The State Test & quizzes are an important part of this class and will be 60% of your grade.
Extra-credit will be given not to replace an assignment, but to augment the nal work.
If all assignments are not completed extra-credit can only increase grade to a B. Late work will be accepted,
but a 10% reduction will be accessed each day late until 50% is achieved. All late work must be turned in one week prior to last day of the term.
Assessment of Progress
This course is a process oriented class. Each process helps to create a product of some sort. These product will assess how they have learned and what they have learned. These programs and processes are new to the majority of my students it is an Introduction to Screen Printing. There will be a state test at the end of the course, there will also be a proficiency total through out the course.
Course Materials
All Materials will be provided in class to complete the course. If students want to complete personal projects based on our learning they will have to purchase those extra materials. Example T-Shirts, Vinyl Stickers, Hats etc.
Students will provide their own shirts if they want to print above what the class allows. If they want their own aprons or work cloths they can bring them. I have plenty of aprons and work shirts if needed.
Classroom Procedures
Safety – You will be expected to read and follow the safety agreement as well as follow ongoing safety procedures for each project. After an introduction to safety, you will be expected to pass a safety test with a score of a 100%. Horseplay will not be tolerated and will be cause for ejection from the class.
Class Rules– Food and drink are allowed in the classroom area, the computer lab and printing and dark room
food and drink are not permitted. Music needs to be con ned to the use of headphones; failure to use
headphones will result in loss of and computer privileges. Wasting time in class will result in a loss of
participation points and a book assignment will be issued for the wasted time. Abuse of equipment will not
be tolerated and nancial expenses will be assessed. I do have a facebook page Provo High Graphics Classes
I will be posting your art work on if you don’t want to be on this page please let me know and I won’t post your Projects. I am excited to have you in my class. We continue to add new equipment so that everyone has a chance to participate. I hope you enjoy Graphic Arts as much as I do. Please come to class ready to work and learn.
Behavior– We will use the Provo City School District Character Development statement as a model of behavior For our class and the “Safe and Orderly School’s policy” as a consequence for poor choices. The dress code for
Provo High School will be enforced. The computers are for school use only and games and social media are prohibited.
Calendar of Due Dates for Major Assignments
In this course AdobeIllustrator is taught. The software program will have a series of projects that will teach them to master the program they change each year or even semester to semester. Each software program will have some assessments to see if the learning or mastery is achieved. At the end of each semester there is a major state test which will be given before Christmas break and the last week before school ends.
They will be able to print about 4 prints during the semester. Students need to be there to be able to print and design in class.
Each day the student will have a quote and a question to answer and respond to, each question is 5pts and each quote response is 5pts for a total of 10pts a day. I will collect these points in 100’s, if they miss a day they can just ask or copy off a friend to get the quote and question. The questions are designed to help them study for the state test.
Progress Reports and Report Cards
Grades are updated weekly in Power School. I try to place assignments in early so the student knows what to do, my due dates are flexible based on how the class is responding to the projects. If you have questions email me or swing by and talk with me.
Attendance is required because most of your homes might not have the resources we have in the classroom i.e. software, screen printing machines, etc…
