Hey everyone! I’m guessing you are here to learn more about me. SO, let me tell you about myself.
I am a the computer science educator here at Provo High.
I graduated from Utah Valley University with both my undergrad and masters degree. Outside of PHS I work for Utah Valley Univiersity’s Creative Learning Studio where I help to write computer science curriculum for K-12 teacher. Through this position I am able to help with professional development for teachers and STEM learning opportunities for kids throughout the State of Utah.
Outside of education, I am a HUGE Chicago Cubs Fan and watch/listen to the games them whenever I can. While I watch/listen to the Cubs games I like hanging out with family and friends, ride my family’s horses, going golfing, hiking, working in the yard, quilting, and hand embroidery…. to be honest I like to do too many things to list here. However, two of the biggest buck list items I have is, to visit every MLB park (4 down, too many to go) and to hike in every National Park (5 down, too many to go).
I’ve had a strong interest towards computers since I was in high school, which has led to a passion for them. Because of this passion I have spent the many years earning endorsements that have allow me to teach computer science and IT related courses. While at PHS I have worked to build a strong computer science/IT culture for all students by showing them that computer science is more than just sitting in front of a computer screen and typing line-after-line of code.
I have strongly developed the belief that computer science in a strong tool that can be used to teach student the skills they need in life. This ideal has been around for a longer then we realize. Dr. Grace Hooper, a Rear Admiral in the United States Navy stated: “Programming is more than an important practical art. It is also a gigantic undertaking in the foundations of knowledge.” I understand that not all student will become a computer scientist. However, I truly believe that programming is key foundation to teach student the skill they will need to succeed in the 21st century world.
