WELCOME TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION — FITNESS FOR LIFE.
WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT YEAR!!!!!!
FFL is a class that emphasizes fitness and academic knowledge, by showing the student ways to assess and develop a personal Fitness program. Note (Classroom work, Lectures, and Fitness Assessments will be the focus of this class) .5 credits fulfills part of the 1.5 graduation requirements.
** Note a pencil or pen and a 3 Ring Binder & a Spiral Notebook is needed for class each day. You get to make the cover sheet using your own creativity.
Grades categories will be based upon:
. 20% – Portfolio Binder and Project (Personal Fitness Plan) Fitness Tests
. 40%- Written Tests, Assignments, Physical Assessments, Logs, and Journals
. 40% – Class Participation/Dressing/Proper conduct.
Grades scale: will be based on the following:
. 93-100 = A . 77-79 = C+ *67-69= D+
. 90-92 = A- . 73-76 = C * 63-66= D
. 87-89 = B+ . 70-72 = C- *60-62=D-
. 83-86 = B *59 or below = F
. 80-82 = B-

*Each Unit will have a Chapter Packet/Worksheets that will need to be completed and kept in the Student’s binder.
*Each chapter will have a required Chapter Review at the end of the Unit. This will need to be completed and kept with the Unit/Chapter worksheets.
*There will be a Chapter Quiz on EACH CHAPTER at the end of that Unit.
* This binder (sometimes called a PORTFOLIO, will be due at the end of the term.
*There also will be a 1 MILE RUN assessment and/or a 12 MINUTE RUN assessment.
*A FITNESS LOG WILL ALSO BE DUE AT THE END OF THE TERM (turned in with the PORTFOLIO.)
* A FITNESS GRAM assessment will be given twice per semester.

NO SLEEVELESS OR BELLY SHIRTS ARE ALLOWED!!!!!!!!!
. T-shirt (white,grey, green, or black) no printing on shirt.
Provo High School printing is OK. We like to promote our School Teams.
Please wear dark Shorts or Sweats /Leggings in a dark or solid color.
NO Low Rider Jeans, Khakis, Boxers, Spandex shorts.
. Socks must be worn with the tennis shoes- No sandals
. Shoes (tennis shoe type, with shoe laces and no black sole. No open
heel, slip-ons, and hiking shoes, no flip flops.)
Uniforms: Students are responsible to get their own PE Clothes.
II. PADLOCKS AND LOCKERS (See school website)
. The student will provide their own combination lock for their locker. Record the Locker number and combination with the PE Teacher. IF YOU FORGET YOUR COMBINATION AND YOU HAVEN’T RECORDED IT, YOUR LOCK WILL NEED TO BE CUT OFF. PHS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CUT LOCK.
Remember: NO KEY LOCKS

(This is a Participation Class: you have to attend to receive an A grade).
The Physical Education department, in accordance with the State’s Standards and Benchmarks, has adopted and will follow the Provo School District’s and State’s policy of 90% attendance to earn and work toward receiving an “A” grade. (3 days per term).
A student can have three excused absences per term without penalty. Each absence after 3 the student’s class participation grade will be lowered 5%. If however, a student has extracurricular absences, these will not count toward their allotted three absences.
Absences because of extended illnesses, injuries, doctor’s excuses and ( pre-approved vacations with an extended leave form) will be handled on an individual basis.
A student has one free tardy; upon being tardy a second time, that student will lose five points from his or her class participation grade. Furthermore, for each additional tardy, five points will be deducted from his or her class participation grade.
0-3 ABSENCES: 100%
4 OR MORE ABSENCES: 5% GRADE DROP FOR EACH DAY OVER THREE,
DEDUCTED FROM PARTICIPATION GRADE
0-1 TARDIES: NO POINTS DEDUCTED FROM

Participation and dressing for P.E. are mandatory. When there are verifiable injuries or illnesses, the student will still be expected to dress and participate at the parent’s, student’s and teacher’s discretion. If you are well enough to come to school you are well enough to participate. Failure to dress for P.E. class affects success, and therefore will result in daily point loss.
NON DRESSES AFFECT STUDENTS’ CLASS PARTICIPATION GRADES; THIS GRADE IS 25% OF THE OVERALL GRADE. EACH TIME A STUDENT FAILS TO DRESS OUT IN THE FULL P.E. UNIFORM HER CLASS PARTICIPATION GRADE WILL BE DROPPED APPROXIMATELY FIVE PERCENT. NO MAKE-UP WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR NON-DRESSES.

***Students that are in attendance (1%) on time(1%) and are dressed fully (1%) each day will receive as much as a 3% bonus added to their Participation grade at the end of each term. Pay Attention To This…..It can make a full grade change.
Due Dates, Make-up, Incomplete
All assignments are due on the date given by the teacher. Work that is up to one week late will be worth 80% of the points, if later then one week 50%. All tests/make-up is due one week past the date the test was given. The student is responsible to get work missed when absent. All make-up work is due the day of return or if a student has extended absences within a week of the absent. Incompletes, given for a term grade will need to be made-up by the two weeks after the report card is out.
We will use Provo High Schools and District policies regarding attendance, tardies, video policy, cheating, and suspension. The “Safe and Orderly Schools” policy will be used as
a consequence for poor choices. Failure to comply with these rules and/or other inappropriate behavior, will result in a loss of a point for the day. (See school website)
GYM & LOCKER ROOM CONDUCT see Covid 19 amendment
> NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED: phones,CD/MP3 players
. 1ST violation: Asked to put away – Deduction of 5 points each class.
. 2nd violation: Teacher will take and give back at end of class.
. 3rd violation: Teacher gives to principal.
. No Hats or caps, sunglasses or water bottles allowed during activity.
. Everyone should have their own towel.
. For safety, no glass containers in the locker room.
. No jewelry (EAR, NOSE, LIP, OR EYEBROW RINGS, ETC)
. Don’t leave money or anything valuable in the locker room.
. When a student leaves the gym, locker room or field without permission,
it will constitute an automatic full grade drop.
. Students are expected to meet back in the gym after showering and
dressing. (Penalty: Marked absence or Violation given)
. Be on time. Roll call in the classroom begins after the bell rings
. No sitting on counters.
. Listen to and follow all teacher instructions and safety laws for the class.

We have an option of using the Climbing Wall as part of our Weight Training Unit.
***Indoor traverse climbing wall (10X52 ft. long). Students may use this only with teacher supervision during class period and after learning the safety rules.
Head Injuries: State Law (Concussion)
As a department we have to make you aware that if a student gets a head injury, we will follow the HEAD INJURY ACT. See the school website for the Concussion Policy.
Class Fee: Is used to buy and repair equipment and repair PE lockers, etc. Approved Fee Waivers apply.
Assignments and or quiz,tests are due at the end of each Unit/Chapter. Students will have ONE WEEK AFTER THE COMPLETED UNIT TO TURN IN MISSED ASSIGNMENTS FOR FULL CREDIT.
Success is measured by: Participation, Dressing, Attending class and being On Time, Assignments, Tests, Homework completed and turned in On Time. THE STUDENT AND PARENT CAN ACCESS GRADES ON POWER SCHOOL. YOUR STUDENTS GRADE WILL BE POSTED AFTER EACH UNIT IN THE CLASSROOM.

Attendance, Participation, and Dressing policies will be modified for each individual’s health issues. Students will need to be in Active wear clothes on the day they have this PE class.
