WELCOME TO AWJ. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT YEAR!!!!!!
Aerobic/Walk/Jog is a class that assess aerobic skill, walking and running techniques, fitness and running tests, and mastery of the district and state standards/benchmarks. .5 credits fulfill part of the 1.5 graduation requirements. This class is a daily participation class with success measured by the quality and quantity of participation, proper P.E. dress, attending class, being on time, and completing and turning assignments etc., in on due dates.
Grade categories will be based upon:
* 50%- Cardiovascular Journal/Fitness/Running Tests, Quizzes, Assignments,
District Standards, and Quality Papers.
*50%- Class Participation/Dressing/Proper conduct and ability to follow rules and
regulations.
Grade scale will be based on the following:
* 93-100= A * 80-82 = B- * 67-69 = D+
* 90-92 = A- * 77-79 = C+ * 63-66= D
* 87-89 = B+ * 73-76 = C * 60-62=D-
* 83-86 = B * 70-72 = C- * Below 59 = F
Activity unit: will include assignments, worksheets, quizzes, Running tests, Fitness or Cardio Log, to assess the student’s understanding.
Extra Class Needs: Keep pencil or pen in a folder. . You must have your own folder for fitness logs.

*ATTENDANCE POLICY: (This is a Participation Class: you have to attend to receive an A grade). The Physical Education department, in accordance with the State’s Standards and Benchmarks, has adopted and will follow the 90% attendance to earn and work toward receiving an “A” Grade. (3 days per term).
A student can have three excused absences per term without penalty. Each absence after 3 the student’s class participation grade will be lowered 5%. To make-up the 5% grade drop when absent the student will need to be on time and come to Two 30 Minute (2:20-3pm) physical activity sessions for intervention . Needs to be completed before the last week of the term.
If however, a student has extracurricular absences, these will not count toward their allotted three absences. Absences because of extended illnesses; injuries, doctor excuses and (pre-approved vacations with an extended leave form) will be handled on an individual basis.
A student has one free tardy; upon being tardy a second time, that student will lose five points from his or her class participation grade. Furthermore, for each additional tardy, five points will be deducted from his or her class participation grade.

***Students that are in attendance (1%) on time (1%) and are dressed fully (1%) each day, will receive as much as a 3% bonus added to their Participation grade at the end of each term.
*Dressing/Participation Policy: (No make-up will be accepted for non-dresses). Students need to be in Active Wear on the days they are in PE class.

Participation and dressing for P.E. are mandatory. When there are verifiable injuries or illnesses, the student will still be expected to dress and participate at parents, student’s and teacher’s discretion. If you are well enough to come to school your well enough to participate. Failure to dress for P.E. class affects success, and therefore will result in daily point loss.
NON-DRESSES AFFECT STUDENTS’ CLASS PARTICIPATION GRADES; THIS GRADE IS 40% OF THE OVERALL GRADE. EACH TIME A STUDENT FAILS TO DRESS OUT IN THE FULL P.E. UNIFORM HIS OR HER CLASS PARTICIPATION GRADE WILL BE DROPPED APPROXIMATELY FIVE PERCENT. NO MAKE-UP WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR NON-DRESSES.
Due Dates, Make-up, Incomplete
All assignments are due on the date given by the teacher. Work that is up to one week late will be worth 80% of the total points, if later then one week 50%. The student is responsible to get work missed when absent. All test make-up is due within 1 week of when the test is given. All make-up work is due the day of return or if a student has extended absences within a week of the absent. An incomplete, given for a term grade will need to be made-up the two weeks after the report card is out.
We will use Provo High School’s policies regarding attendance, tardies, video policy, cheating, and suspension. The Provo School District “Safe and Orderly Schools” policy will be used as a consequence for poor choices. Failure to comply with these rules and/or other inappropriate
behavior will result in loss of points for the day. (See school website).
GYM AND LOCKER ROOM CONDUCT
> NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED: phones, IPods/Headphones
. 1ST violation: Asked to put away. (5 points deducted each class period.)
. 2nd violation: Teacher will take and give back at end of class.
. 3rd violation: Teacher gives to principal.
. No Hats/Sunglasses/Water bottles (during activity time).
. No cameras or video use in locker room areas.
. For safety, no glass containers in the locker room.
. No jewelry (EAR, NOSE, LIP, OR EYEBROW, RINGS,ETC)
. Don’t leave money or anything valuable in the locker room.
. When a student leaves the gym, locker room or field without permission, it will
constitute an automatic sluff= a full grade drop.
. Students are expected to meet back in the gym after showering and
dressing. (Penalty: Violation given)
. Be on time. Roll call begins 5 minutes after the bell. A tardy may be given for
not being in the locker room hallway when the bell rings or to roll call.
. No sitting on counters etc.

Head Injuries: State Law (Concussion)
As a department we have to make you aware that if a student gets a head injury we will follow the Head Injury Act. See school website for the Concussion Policy.
Fitness Log will be due and graded up to 4 times during the term.
Success measured by:
Participation . Dressing Attending and being On Time Assignments, Tests, Homework completed and turned in on time.
The student and parent can access grades in power school, and the teacher will post grades after each unit in the classroom.
*** AMENDMENT: DUE TO COVID 19
ATTENDANCE, PARTICIPATION, AND DRESSING WILL BE MODIFIED FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL’S HEALTH ISSUES. STUDENTS NEED TO BE IN ACTIVE WEAR CLOTHES ON THE DAY THEY HAVE THIS PE CLASS.
