Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
I am excited to be teaching at Provo high school this year and look forward to meeting and working with all of you. I am of the opinion that Theatre is an integral part of our society and my hope is that as you participate in this class you will gain an understanding of its importance. This class will be a lot of fun insofar as you participate; it will also require a lot of work. You will access, analyze, evaluate, and create great art. This is no easy “A”.
By the end of this course you will be able to choose and perform a classical monologue, prepare and perform and audition piece, prepare and perform a contemporary scene, and safely perform stage combat.
You will be required to be in class and participating every day. There is a daily participation grade of 5 points. Keep in mind that you start the day with 0 points and work your way up to 5, so just being in class does not constitute full points. Also you are required to audition for at least one Provo High School play.

I fully support the policies and rules of Provo High School. If you have a question about those rules consult your student handbook.
My classroom rules are simple:
Don’t cause a problem. (e.g. Texting in class)
If you cause a problem I will have to do something about it. (e.g. taking cell phone away forever.)
If you feel that what I have done to deal with your problem is unfair or excessive you may bring me your concern in writing with a proposed option for another solution, signed by your parent or guardian.
Due to the systematic and perpetual trashing of my classroom, all food is banned. Exceptions due to health reasons will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

I will accept late work up to one week after the due date. 10% will be deducted for each day late. After one week no credit will be given for said assignment.
There are opportunities for extra credit but do not wait until the last minute to come to me. I cannot spend the few extra hours I have at the end of each term giving and grading extra credit assignments.
