Dress Code Reinforcement

Students, Parents, and Guardians,

As the weather warms, we are seeing more and more major violations of the school’s dress code. Please be aware this coming Monday, the staff will begin earnestly addressing violations of the dress code. The first time a student is found in violation of the dress code, a staff member will review the dress code with the student and require the student to wear a shirt provided by the school or make other appropriate adjustments to their clothing, which might include calling home to have someone bring different clothing items to the school that meet dress code guidelines.

Students will not be allowed in class if they are in violation of the dress code. We ask your support in this matter. I will include the full dress code at the bottom of this email for your review. As a rule of thumb, students should wear clothing that covers their bodies from their shoulders to mid-thigh with no skin showing in between. Thank you for your support with this matter.

The dress code may be found on page 23 of the student handbook available for review on the school’s website. For your convenience, the dress code is provided below.

Dress and Grooming

Provo High students take pride in their school. Students show their pride through dress and grooming. Attire which attracts undue attention, creates hygienic or safety problems or creates a disturbance is inappropriate and is not allowed.

1. Clothing must be modest:

a. Bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, low cut neckline, short shorts and mini-skirts are

not allowed.

b. Shorts and skirts must be at least mid-thigh / fingertip length.

2. Clothing shall be neat and clean.

a. Grungy, ragged, torn, and / or dirty clothing is not suitable for school.

b. Undergarments / underwear must always be covered and not visible

c. Clothing which displays, represents, or suggests obscenity or items students

cannot legally possess is not allowed.

3. Accessories must not present a health or safety risk.

a. Items that could be dangerous or be used as a weapon (needles, spurs, spikes,

chains, etc.) are not allowed.

4. Footwear must be worn at all times.

5. Hats may be worn at the discretion of the teachers. Hoods may not be worn in the

school building.

6. Any attic that identifies, promotes, or suggests illegal or gang activity is not

permitted.

La ropa debe ser modesta. Los estómagos descubiertos, los tirantes finos, los escotes bajos, los pantalones cortos y las minifaldas no son apropiado para la escuela. Los pantalones cortos y las faldas deben tener al menos la mitad de la entrepierna o la punta de los dedos La ropa debe estar limpia y ordenada.
