- Description: This rigorous course is for students interested in college-level curriculum and parallels English Composition courses taught at many universities. Students will engage in intensive reading of prose (primarily American) in order to enhance their own writing skills and to examine how writers use language to effectively persuade, educate, and even entertain. This course includes extensive writing in multiple genres with particular emphasis on expository, analytical, and argumentative writing. Successful completion enables students to take the AP English Language Exam for possible college credit.

- Description: Creative Writing is for students to learn how to cultivate the habits, attitudes, and responsibilities of a creative writer. Students will learn how to create, develop, and refine original forms of descriptive writing. As they read and write, students will become familiar with a variety of genres (such as short stories, poetry, screenplays, and more) and will focus on developing their use of creative writing techniques. Students will also help organize a creative writing competition and help publish the literary magazine.

- Description: This is a concurrent enrollment course through UVU’s English Department that will provide high school senior English credit. - Description: Mythology and Folklore is a semester-long course that explores the original beliefs and myths from diverse cultures around the world, including the universal themes, archetypes, and motifs that transcend cultural boundaries. From the epic tales of ancient Greece and Rome to the mystical legends of East Asia and the enchanting folklore of indigenous peoples, students will gain a deep appreciation for the diversity and complexity of human storytelling.This course integrates the reading and writing skills outlined in the state standards for English 11/English 12, so students interested in this course should have demonstrated proficiency in their previous English Language Arts courses. Students will hone their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills through a variety of personal projects, oral presentations, and collaborative assignments. Mythology and Folklore is designed for students who are passionate about literature, history, and cultural studies, and who want to complete English credits or elective credits through a focused study of both original myths and more modern adaptations in literature and media. This course will also serve to prepare students for the gen-ed humanities and writing courses required at many colleges and universities.

- Description: Pop Culture & Pop literature is a semester-long course that explores the way today’s culture and literature is shaped by current events and beliefs. Students will study the core elements of pop culture (entertainment, fashion, technology, sports, social media, celebrities, food, art, etc.) and the events that cause these elements to become embedded in a society. Students will also read and discover a wide range of popular and modern literature including news articles, mystery/detective, fiction, novels in verse, graphic novels, historical fiction, diverse novels, fantasy, dystopia, and adventure. In addition to studying these popular genres and texts, students will also study themes, techniques, and purposes of contemporary fiction. This course integrates the reading and writing skills outlined in the state standards for English 11/English 12, so students interested in this course should have demonstrated proficiency in their previous English Language Arts courses. Students will hone their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills through a variety of personal projects, oral presentations, and collaborative assignments. This course is for students who wish to broaden their experience through reading, thinking, discussing, and writing, and who want to complete English credits or elective credits through a focused study of current trends in pop culture and pop literature.
DE ENGL 1010 - Intro to Academic Writing (UVU)

- Description: This is the first of two courses required to complete the minimum writing courses for college (required for General Education Certificate or Associate Degree). This course is only offered during Semester 1. It teaches rhetorical knowledge and skills, focusing on critical reading, writing, and thinking. Introduces writing for specific academic audiences and situations. Emphasizes writing as a process through multiple drafts and revisions.
DE ENGL2010 - Intermediate Writing: Academic Writing & Research (UVU)

- Description: This course is the second course required to complete the minimum writing courses for College (required for a General Education Certificate or Associate Degree). This course is only offered during Semester 2. It emphasizes academic inquiry and research in the humanities and social sciences. It explores issues from multiple perspectives, teaches careful reasoning, argumentation, and rhetorical awareness of purpose, audience and genre. This course focuses on critically evaluating, effectively integrating, and properly documenting sources. In addition to major essay assignments, it may include in-class writing and collaboration, an annotated bibliography, oral presentations, and portfolios.

- Description: AP Physics C is a college-level physics course which is the equivalent of a major level mechanics course. You’ll learn the same concepts as AP Physics 1, with an added application of calculus. The class is designed to prepare you to take the AP Physics C exam at the end of the year. Any student who plans on selecting a major that requires physics courses (physics, engineering, etc) would consider this course, as a good score on the AP exam will cover a course for their major.

- Description:The Junior Varsity Ballroom Dance Company at Provo High School serves as a developmental program for students aspiring to refine their dance technique and performance skills in preparation for higher levels of competition and performance. This course offers intermediate dancers the opportunity to deepen their understanding of ballroom dance through a blend of technique training, choreography, and performance experience. While participation in this class requires commitment, the expectations for outside-of-class time are designed to support skill development while balancing students’ academic and extracurricular responsibilities. Junior Varsity members are encouraged to attend competitions and performances as part of their growth, and they will represent the school in various events throughout the year. This course focuses on critically evaluating, effectively integrating, and properly documenting sources.
