Concurrent Enrollment (CE) and Distance Education (DE)

Concurrent Enrollment at Provo High School

Concurrent Enrollment gives dual (CE) credit for high school classes. Provo High School CE teachers have met the requirements for adjunct faculty at the university level, and have adjusted their curriculum in order to meet the college expectations. CE classes may give anywhere from 2 – 4 college credits for the CE course.

In order to get college credit in a CE class, students must have applied to UVU and then register for the course credit through the college. The college application fee is $35 and is a one time fee. Registration happens when a student starts a new CE class at the high school.

Distance Education at Provo High School

Distance Education (also known as Live Interactive or LI) are classes broadcast through the Utah Ednet system. They give dual Concurrent Enrollment (CE) credit. For each 3 credit hour class, students receive 1.0 high school credit. These courses are taught by a UVU professor and are live and interactive, meaning students can participate even though they are attending remotely. These courses run on the UVU schedule of classes and are held on either Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or Tuesday and Thursday. Check the DE Class Schedule for that information.

Courses are challenging and range from 3-5 on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the most difficult) and are for Junior and Senior students.

A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for all students participating in Distance Education.

Students taking DE courses with UVU purchase their own textbooks, pay a $5 per credit hour partial tuition directly to the university through Tuition Payment Plus and a $10 per class administration fee to the high school business office.

The Distance Education schedule differs from year to year, however, for the sake of consistency, Provo High School tries to maintain General Education courses consistent for high school and college graduation.

Signing up for the college credit in your classes, whether it’s CE or DE, is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Students can go to www.uvu.edu/concurrent and complete the steps.

Step 1: Application. New students need to fill out the Concurrent Enrollment Application using their legal name as it appears on Powerschool. Students will be emailed their UVU ID number within 1 to 2 business days. All new students will be required to pay the UVU $35 Application Fee.
Step 2: Registration. Once a student has a UVU ID number, they can go in and complete the college registration for the course(s).
- login to MyUVU and go to the Student Tab
- Go to “Registration and Planning.”
- Next go to “Add/Drop Classes.”
- The next screen will give you “Add/Drop/Waitlist Classes”
- Choose the current semester
- Enter your CRNs for the class
- Click the “Add to Summary”
- Make sure to Click “Submit” in order for your classes to be added.
Step 3: Pay your Tuition. Once a student is registered for their UVU CE/DE classes they can go into their MyUVU portal and pay the $5 per credit hour tuition.
