Our Foreign Language department has undergone some big changes this year! Another new teacher is Jamila Hubbard, who teaches ASL.
Jamila was born Deaf, so American Sign Language is her first language… but she has since learned written French, Mexican Sign Language and Venezuelan Sign Language. Jamila grew up in the small town of Montezuma, Georgia. She graduated from Gallaudet University with her Bachelor’s degree in ASL Linguistics. She enjoys interpreting and translating songs into ASL in order to help Deaf people visualize what’s happening, so that’s like a movie running in their mind.
Even though she just began her position here last week, her colleagues and students have already noted her warmth and positivity. It is readily evident in her smile and demeanor!
Welcome to Provo High, Jamila!
