Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
Art of world cultures; fine arts credit
This is a process based class where you will learn how to handle, manipulate and care for a variety of materials pertaining to a variety of cultures. This is a hands-on learning environment; you are expected to work in class everyday. My class requires a strong sense of independence, responsibility, honor, self-motivation, craftsmanship, and workmanship.
Learning Expectations
The Syllabus and daily agenda will be posted in the classroom outlining the current, future and passed assignments.
A Calendar syllabus will given to the students outlining approximate unit overviews and due dates on the first day of each unit.
Assessment of Progress
Grades will follow the given rubric for each unit.
Daily In-class participation points will count towards the students grade.
Course Materials
There is a $25.00 fee for classroom materials within the class of Art of world cultures class.
Personal projects of the students choosing will range in price depending on what materials the students choose.
All tools will be provided for the student to complete assignments.
Classroom Procedures
The attendance policy for this class will correlate with your Provo high handbook. Based on collected data pertaining to this class specifically after 3 absences it is almost never possible to receive a passing grade.
*The equipment and classroom materials cannot be taken home.
*Any work completed out of the studio will be counted as extra credit for a max of 20pts.
*Students will be given 2 bathroom passes per term. Students leaving the campus or excess time out of the classroom with or without a pass will be marked truant.
**A note on appropriate clothing: Students are expected to follow the school dress code at all times within the school building but do to the nature of the ceramics classroom appropriate clothing should be noted.
Working in an art studio involves bending over to work on wheels, bending over tables to work on projects, lifting up totes and projects onto various heights shelving, and making sure the classroom is absolutely clean before leaving the classroom. Please make sure your student is wearing appropriately sized clothing, not to tight, not to low cut, not to baggy in the pants, not to low in the pants. We are trying to prevent any embarrassing moments for your students please help us to help them. Any student causing others or themselves to be embarrassed by their clothing will be sent to the office for the class period, so as not to distract other students from concentrating on there school work.
*No open tow shoes or Heals in the art Studio. We are dealing with glass and other heavy materials for your own protection please wear appropriate attire.
*Students are welcome and encouraged to bring a change of cloths or shoes for the class, the school will not be responsible of any lost or stolen items.
*Any Damage sustained to the studio as a direct result of your student taking the class will be assessed, reported and charged through the business office.
