Classroom Procedures
Attendance/Participation: Regular attendance is critical to learning and your ability to receive a good grade. Students are expected to attend class everyday and work diligently the entire period. The Provo High School Attendance Policy will be strictly enforced. Because of the nature of the class, most work will be completed at school. Students will have daily points allotted for participation, which includes cleanup. Not cleaning will result in complete loss of points for that day.
Calendar of Due Dates for Major Assignments
All major assignments will be due before the end of each term. Each week students will be earning weekly participation and clean up points.
Progress Reports and Report Cards
Each student will be given a “Welding Log” where every welding assignment for the year will be listed. The welding log is also something they will “Clock in” on each and every day to earn attendance points. Each student will be assessed as if they were “employees” and depending on their work ethic, punctuality, and work produced all together in combination will result in their overall grade.
Connecting Home to School

In this class, attendance and shop participation is a HUGE part of being successful through out the year. If students begin to goof off or loose interest in the course, it makes it really hard for me, as the instructor, to justify a passing grade. This class is a work-based class that is geared towards preparing each and every student for the workforce and real life. Students will be treated as adults in every aspect of having a job and being a respectful adult.
Each student will go through an “application process” where they will be taught how to properly fill out an application and build a resume. Once correctly completed, students then become “employee’s” and are treated as such. We have a Write-Up system which reflects that of a real job and with each of their Write- Ups their “Employee Status” (assignment) will be dropped by one third each time, which negatively impacts their grade. Also, this means that like a real job, if you receive enough Write-Ups (three), you can be “Fired”. That can mean one of two things; First, it could mean that they have a chance to re-apply and go through an interview in front of the class. If done correctly, they will be “re-hired” and their Employee status will be brought back up. Second, if the Write-Ups are a more serious offense, they could be removed from my class for good. If there are any questions regarding this system, please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to explain it further.
